Claire Zaslove was born and raised in Vancouver, B.C. She earned her B.A. at Yale in English and Theater Studies, and then her M.F.A. in Directing for Theatre at the University of British Columbia.

Claire’s work as a playwright is influenced by her background as a director, and as an actress on stage and screen. Her experience includes everything from starting the obligatory “fledgling theatre company” as a recent graduate, to being paid generous hourly sums as a voiceover performer for radio or a dialogue coach for television productions.

A long collaboration with director Arne Zaslove has yielded two children, an abiding interest in the vitality of physical theatre, and a couple of translations: An Italian Straw Hat and The Imaginary Invalid.

Claire is most interested in theatre that embraces the physicality of live actors, as well as the music of text. As Jacques Lecoq said of his work in physical theatre: “On manque toujours les écrivains.” We are always missing the writers. Theatrical imagination is an ever-renewable resource, no many how many other new media compete.

Writing sometimes under the pseudonym K.C. Brown, Claire’s one non-fiction book, “What Do You Mean You Haven’t Seen - ?”, is a love letter to classic movies, designed to help families enjoy sharing films that have shaped our cultural landscape. Find it on Amazon.

Claire is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America.
